3D printing can be a complex process to understand. For the grand reopening of the Cooper Hewitt museum, I wanted to educate attendees on what SLA 3d printing is and how it works.
The idea was to augment informational graphics over what the 3d printer was doing during the printing process. A transparent LCD allowed for this effect of seeing what was going on with the printer at each stage of the process.
CONSTRUCTION: 1. Protective glass 2. Transparent LCD 3. Part and print platform 4. Live printer
Graphics were created to inform what the printer was doing at the current stage of printing and communicate to the viewer how far along the 3dprinted object was in the process.
Animations were created to emulate the UI of the printer.
